This sketch was built from imagination, and when I say built from imagination - I mean intuitively constructed from my previous artworks, memory, and many photos I had collected of snakes - There’s no shortage of snakes here in Mississippi!
I typically like using prey animals as subjects, but every once and while a predator sneaks in. Snakes are an excellent study of gesture and line with the many shapes they can curl themselves into.
This is part of a small series of pieces in which I experimented with leaving portions of the raw wood showing through.
“Snake & Egg” has been coated with Gamvar satin varnish to protect against dirt and make it easy to clean, and is signed on the front bottom right corner.

Processing time is 2-3 weeks.
